Is the program free?
The Brighter Futures program by the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Milwaukee offers this hands-on culinary experience free as long as the youth is registered with the Boys and Girls Club. Registration with the Boys and Girls Club is complimentary into the Brighter Futures program.
What will they learn?
In this training course, students will learn the following kitchen basics:
• Food handling & safety (ServSafe Certification)
• Knife skills • Cleaning & Sanitation
• Baking • Hospitality Training / Table setting + Serving
• Etiquette • Food recipes • Meal preparation
• Assembly • Business skills
• Restaurant simulation
• Intro to AI
Is transportation provided?
Yes, it is! Once your child is approved for the program, the Boys and Girls Club will provide information on transportation if needed.

1. Dress Code
No open-toe shoes or sandals – closed-toe, non-slip shoes are required.
No high heels – safety first in the kitchen.
Comfortable clothing is encouraged. T-shirts and pants or jeans are preferred.
Long hair must be tied back.
2. Hygiene Policy
Hands must be washed thoroughly before and after handling food.
Fingernails should be clean and trimmed.
Deodorant is required. Please avoid strong perfumes or colognes.
Aprons will be provided and must be worn during cooking activities.
3. General Conduct
Respect instructors, fellow campers, and equipment at all times.
No horseplay or running in the kitchen.
Phones must be put away during instructional time unless otherwise approved.
Campers who do not follow these rules may be asked to sit out of certain activities for safety reasons.
